Bangladesh needs a formalised animal rescue system (The Daily Star, Mar 30th, 2024)
I have urged for proper state sanctioned training, equipment and a formal institution for Animal Rescuing in Bangladesh in this opinion. Despite the existence of the Animal Welfare Act 2019, there is an absence of proper guidelines, recruitment and training processes for rescuers, or even an enforcement authority that can be relied on. The narrative needs to change, fast.

I was in talks with Tia Chowdhury, founder of Animal Rescuers Bangladesh (ARB) and we both jointly expressed our disappointment with the exercise of rights for animals in our country. Starting off with the constricting cages in Katabon, how the stated monetary fine in Animal Welfare Act 2019 is not adequate, how there is no emergency patient intake for pets to the relocation of dogs by the municipality.
